Joel West is flirting with the sound of techno, a slight expansion of sound from the house and tech-house he’s played for over a decade. Following the October release of Joel’s first single, Lazy Cat, a collab track with Joseph Martin on Martin’s East Van Digital label, the pair are currently working on a collab EP that is slated for a spring/summer 2015 release.
Spring 2015 (time of writing) has seen Joel open for Rave of Thrones (Hodor/Kristian Nairn) at Spiritbar in Nelson, BC, drop a 3am set at the FozzyFest 2015 Warm-up Party, go two-for-two with Jon Delerious at Bamboo, and return to Vancouver to headline the Soundproof & Nautilus nights at The Anza, as well as a 1am set in the Main Room at Vancouver Art & Leisure.
Joel is a founding member of the community initiative Groundwerk Vancouver (facebook.com/groundwerkvancouver), a monthly producer’s meetup where producers submit music and gather to listen, meet each other, and build skills. Modelled on the Habitat Studio Social in Calgary, Groundwerk has already met with great enthusiasm in the Vancouver community since it’s April launch and we are looking forward to an exciting and collaborative 2015.
Joel has played Shambhala (2010 & 2012), and FozzyFest (five years: 2010-2014), as well as the FozzyFest Warm-Up party May 2014 alongside The Gaff, Digaboo, and Robbie C & Freddy J. Joel has played regionally in BC and Alberta, with past gigs in Vancouver, Calgary, Nelson, Fernie, Revelstoke, and Canmore.
Originally from the Nelson area (the valley), Joel currently calls Vancouver home.
